personality; Seridwen was raised as a tool by her mother, trained from an early age to observe everything, find weaknesses in those around her, and learn ways to exploit them. It's left her coming off on first impression as cold and standoffish. She doesn't trust easily, having been betrayed by both her own mother and her tutor that had raised and trained her in her magics; coupled with being, at least in her eyes, abandoned by her father. While she didn't know it, her mother had hopes of using Seridwen and her power to take the Unseelie throne, though she ruined that by being too wild and untamable (so said her mother in whispers she's picked up later in life).

Underneath that coldness is a woman who craves being loved and accepted for who she is. Not that she shows that side to anyone. She tries to keep relationships surface level, job or fun. Her mark for killing or gaining information on or just someone to release some of her pent up stress. She normally moves on before feelings can be reached for those she has fun with, disappearing into the shadows like a whisper on the wind.

Despite those who turned on her, if you can earn her loyalty, not of the coin variety but true loyalty, if you become someone she cares about, she will protect and fight for you to her death. Being hurt as she's had, it has sharpened her claws, yes, but it has also made her very aware of just how important loyalty can be when it's earned. So it is one of the few codes she lives by, that she won't break her word or abandon those who have earned her loyalty.

She can on occasion also come off a little more cat like with the tilt of her head or her grace. When she first escaped the Fae realm and entered the mortal realm she spent a few years purely in her feline form, and it also left a small inhuman impression on her reactions sometimes. Especially in high stress, it can leave her reacting first and dealing with the consequences later.

abilities; SHAPESHIFTING

As a Phooka, Seridwen's primary magic revolves around shapeshifting into a second form. There are whispers she's heard that the form is a manifestation of the Phooka's inner soul and the essence of who they are. She's not sure if she'd put too much faith in that, but her form is a dark black panther with silver eyes.

SHADOWS

Shadows seem to cling to her even on the brightest, sunniest days. She can use them to hide herself, disappearing into the blackness of them. She can use them to manipulate fae and mortals alike in darkening the world around them until it feels like everything is closing in on them and produce fear. She can also use the shadows to travel and realm hop. While most Fae need to use special gates to move between the Fae and Mortal realms, Seridwen can just walk between them as well as travel to the barren place of the Between; a void like realm that most who try to go get lost forever. The longer she spends in the Between though, the more the dead seem to whisper to her, the whispers lingering at the edges of her shadows once she's in a realm.

PROPHECY

Seridwen has no control over this skill, and it comes and goes as it pleases, but occasionally Seridwen will dream the future. She doesn't always know what is a prophecy dream and a normal dream (or nightmare), until the world around her starts to echo one of her dreams. Most of the time it has aided her in keeping her alive. Occasionally it has warned her about certain world events - some she's warned others about, some she's left to play out because she figures it's above her pay grade and no one she cares about are being affected.

GLAMOUR/ILLUSION

Seridwen, like nearly all fae, has the ability to create illusions or glamours to fool the senses. She uses it on herself in one small aspect, she rounds out the point of her ears, even in the Fae realm. For her world, pointed ears indicates Sidhe blood in a fae's lineage, while full-blooded, or non-Sidhe blooded Phooka have rounded, human looking ears. So even when in the Fae realm, she'll glamour her ears and hide the hint at her Sidhe blood she received from her mother. Her shadows enhance the visual parts of her glamour magic, so the sight aspect are hard to see through even to the most gifted and magically inclined.

SPELLS

Seridwen doesn't have the same proficiency her mother has for spells, they're harder for her and take a little more energy and concentration, but in a pinch she can do some smaller spells for healing and wards. With her profession, she's spent more time strengthening her proficiency with wards over healing and other things she might be able to with this ability.

history; Seridwen was not the name she was born with, though it is the only name she’ll acknowledge. She was born under a moonless sky to a high-standing Unseelie Court Sidhe enchantress. Her mother was known for being exceptionally beautiful, cunning, and deadly, working for the crown on spells and potions alike. She’d thought that Seridwen would bring her more magic, more standing, but from the start Seridwen had a penchant for being trouble.

Her stronger magics manifested nearly from the moment she was born, her crib always edged in shadows and whispers from the Between surrounding her. Some whispered it was due to being born on a new moon, the sky so black the stars didn’t even dare to flicker in the sky. Curse was occasionally thrown around as well, first when they thought she couldn’t hear, but as she grew up, even with her in the room.

It was clear as she grew up that she took after her father, with Phooka magic flowing through her veins. Her mother ensured that she was trained to harness her illusion and shapeshifting magic. What seemed to earn whispers from not just her mentors and Court, but even her own mother, was her command over shadows. They seemed to cling to her, especially when her emotions ran high.

Throughout her growing up, Seridwen constantly asked her mother about her father. She only ever received one story about him, though.

So the story from her mother goes, Vaelithe was gathering midnight flowers for a potion for one of the Princes at the boundary between the Unseelie and Seelie Courts when a black stag as dark as a starless sky walked out of the shadows. By the time the sun rose, Vaelithe had collected more than just the flowers for her potion. There were whispers that Vaelithe knew he would arrive there, and that she would conceive if she spent the night with him, but her mother had never confirmed or denied the whispers.

It left her hungry to figure out who he might be. Not just because he was her father, but his powers in the story always hinted that she had gained everything from him and nothing from her mother, and if her powers were like his maybe he wouldn’t worry about her growing command over shadow like the Court did.

At twenty, she woke from a terrible nightmare about her tutor branding her with a mark that would cut her off from her shadow powers without express permission from the ruling family of Unseelie. She thought it was merely a nightmare, but everything throughout her day started to echo her dream. Before her tutor could subdue her, she used her shadow ability to walk through the Between into the mortal realm.

She’ll never remember the cold look on her mother’s face as she escaped from that fate. With no real knowledge of the mortal realm and no coin or way to survive, she spent the first few years in the wild as a panther living off the land. Eventually, she spent some time on the outskirts of a village and learned about the mortals around her.

Slowly, she used their desires for her gain. Helping wealthy families with their problems by eliminating them. For a price. Spending years as a shadowed assassin in the mortal realm helped her to hone her shadow abilities with dangerous perfection, and also amassed her a small fortune.

After a while, and feeling more confident in herself, she slowly returned to the Fae realm under her new name and started taking jobs for well-paying fae as well. In the Fae realm, she doesn’t just take assassin jobs, but espionage as well. She’s also been known to take jobs where a higher Sidhe wants someone pretty on his arm for political events, using them to keep an eye on her mother from time to time. While Unseelie born and raised, she has taken jobs in the Seelie court as well, and even had some stringless fun with a few of their princes.

She’s also still hunting for information on her father, the elusive Shadow Stag that is said to live in the Between, following neither court.
